Independent bottlers are passionate experts who source whiskies from various distilleries and bottle them under their own label. This allows them to offer a wider selection of unique expressions that may not be available from the distilleries themselves.

There are two types of bottlers, original bottlers (OB) vs independent bottlers (IB). Original bottlers mean the bottler is also the distillery that distilled and matured the whisky, while independent bottlers are bottling casks of whiskies that they have sourced from distilleries.

Here are just some of the reasons why you should hunt for independent bottler scotch whiskies:

1) Be part of the tradition (if you go back far enough)

Traditionally, distilleries have not played a role in bottling and marketing their produce. Up until the Second World War, most distillers were not in the business of bottling their own whisky as a ‘brand’; but rather set up to produce, then sell their spirits to blenders or merchants who would their turn whiskies into bottles.

2) Consistency vs treasure hunt

Drinks Reimagined believes everyone should try independent bottling whiskies because every bottling is different and it is a journey of treasure hunt, while OB bottles strive for consistency of a certain expression over a long period of time, it means you will likely get similar flavors as you buy again. What you miss out, is the opportunity to try a unique, soulful dram with your next pour or purchase.

Independent bottlings (IBs) can bring out the best of a distillate profile, or a particular cask. Full of character, unforgiving, every bottling is its own identity and every bottling is different.

3) Exploration of flavors

With IB whiskies, you can taste cask strength whiskies that amplify a distillate’s character, or resembles nothing close to a distiller’s standard creation; you can experience bourbon cask matured whisky from a typical sherry cask whisky maker, you can try whiskies that would normally only go into blends, you can savor whiskies from closed distilleries that no longer operate.

Life is simply too short to drink the same whisky over and over.

Private bottling service means that you purchase the whisky inside a particular whisky cask, bottle the whisky inside for private consumption.

It is perfect for any special occasions that individuals or companies would like to celebrate with a whisky selection of their own choice, making occasions like weddings, graduations, milestone celebrations extra memorable.

By law, scotch whisky must be bottled in Scotland before export and whisky casks available for private bottling are matured in a bonded warehouse in Scotland and shipped with supporting documents stamped by the relevant government department in Scotland. The legislation is in place for our clients to have peace of mind to the spirit’s origin and authenticity.
